And as he was praying, the appearance of his
countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white. Now
Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they
wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Peter
said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three
booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli'jah". As he said
this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; And a voice came out of the
cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!"
~Luke 9: 29, 32 - 36
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I have just returned from summer vacation and am grateful for having
time away to relax and catch up with old friends. I continue to be
amazed at the wonders of God when I travel and see new places in
America, like this time in Colorado, Oregon and even in good ole
Kansas. I got to bend down and touch the Pacific Ocean and then run as
it tried to catch me.
The mystery of the Transfiguration of Jesus was added as a new
luminous mystery of the rosary by Pope John Paul II. I have always
enjoyed this scene of Jesus manifesting His divinity to the apostles
on Mt. Tabor, especially when I visited the site some twenty-seven
years ago. The words of the Father still ring out in my being: "This
is my beloved Son, listen to Him."
I have been praying for many in our Sanctuary of Hope community and
those who have asked for our prayers at large for healing, physical
and emotional. I invite us all to consent to the light of Christ
coming to us and those we hold to God in prayer. This is the same
brilliance that many mystics experience in contemplative prayer. Just
to rest in the Light and Life of Christ; listen to Him, sort of,
"listening to us" is the most important action we can do for ourselves
and for others.
Donald Spoto in "The Hidden Jesus," says: …"the condition of constant
alertness and openness before God. This is the work of a lifetime."
Wow and Praise God!
