Welcome to the month of December! We were privileged to hear a couple of
concerts at the beginning of this month. During the American Family Christmas
Concert put on by the choirs from UMKC and directed by Dr. Eph Ehly, I heard
in the song, "O Holy Night," the following words. "Till He
appeared and the soul felt its worth." I have heard those words many a
time, but for some reason they rang out in my being, in my soul. If all of us could know in the depths of our hearts that we have worth, due
to Jesus Christ, this could spark a revolution of caring for each other. We
would no longer be jealous of anyone. Sanctuary of Hope, Shantivanam, Franciscan Prayer Center, Timber Creek
Hearth House and many other houses of prayer in our community are about
"souls feeling their worth." One of our stated goals is: "It’s
possible to listen a soul into existence." Wow and Praise the Lord! Even
sin itself cannot stand when a person knows that someone cares enough to
listen to their story, their heart. Jesus understood this well and He came so
that hearts and souls would know in the biblical sense that there is hope for
us. In the healing stories of the Bible, Jesus always asked the person:
"What do you wish me to do for you?" This is a stance of listening.
Sure the person may be blind or paralyzed, but Jesus still wants to know what
they want. So many times what a person wants is not easily seen. It is usually
hidden and in a lot of cases very secret. What excites me about the ministry
of prayer is when I or another truly discover(s) our own heart’s desire!
When people are brave enough to say, "this is what really underlies my
hurt, my pain" and are humble enough to do something worthwhile about it
then one hears the full chorus of "O Holy Night...the thrill of
hope...the weary soul rejoices...a new and glorious morn...Fall on your knees
and hear the angels voices...O night divine...O holy night when Christ was
born!" If you have a prayer request do let us know. You can call us at
913-321-4673 (HOPE) or email your prayer request to us at our
sanctuaryofhope.org website. Remember we will keep your prayer request in
confidence, unless you tell us to pass it along to all our prayer warriors. A
prayer request that a dear friend prays for me is: "Father, give Fr.
Dennis holy boldness." I am trying to make that prayer my own. I remember
a young man who took his own life, because he never felt appreciated. It was
tragic. So I pray that each person that I reach out to will know that they are
remembered by God. It says in the book of the prophet Baruch, "Jerusalem,
see your children gathered from the east and west are remembered by God." All of us at Sanctuary of Hope want to wish each of you a very blest and
appreciated Christmas and may your New Year bring you the thrill of hope and
the promise of Jesus who is always listening. Deepest thanks and love for all
your kindness and Christmas cards, your gifts of financial assistance, your
donations of furniture, blinds, food, treats, books and prayers. Love and Prayers, Fr. Dennis Wait, Bernadine Asher, Jeff Seib, Kelly Ashton,
Steven Seib,
Sr. Mary Eugenia Floersch, SCL, Steve Sullivan, our cook, Brothers and Sisters
of Hope, our Associates, all our Volunteers, our workers and the four legged
creatures at SOH, Solomon, Sophie, Sheba and Mercy.
The Finance Committee asks that people please include Sanctuary of Hope in
their wills. The Staff asks that volunteers would come forward to "detail out"
(finish) Sr. Mary Eugenia and Bernadine’s quarters to allow them to move in
right after Christmas. We all invite you to the Open House on Sunday, February 11, 2001. Come for a
short time of prayer and music at two in the chapel. Stay for refreshments and
to view all that has been done this past year in the living room, office,
conference room and staff quarters. The "Run the Good Race II" staff requests an even greater turnout
and donations of 300 sausage patties, pancake mix, syrup, oranges, prizes
bottled water and 300 t-shirts for this Saturday, April 7, 2001 event.
The following is a brief report on the moneys received for the Building Fund to renovate the NE Wing of SOH, for Sister Mary Eugenia Floersch, SCL and Bernadine Asher to have their permanent quarters:
Grant from a private family..............................................$25,000
Cash from an investment......................................................7,000
All other donations from individuals..................................13,904
Grand Total is....................................................................$45,904
The final bid came in at $52,000. We were $6,096 short of raising all the funds to pay the bid. We are deeply grateful for each and everyone who helped us in this building fund endeavor. This is an answer to prayer and we ask the Coming Savior to reward each of you for such generosity. If you still want to give to the building fund, remember to send checks marked "building fund," Sanctuary of Hope, PO Box 172018, Kansas City, KS 66117-1018.
